This posting will be used for on-going recruitment and may close at any time.  Applicant lists may be screened more than once. New Mexico Rehabilitation Center (NMRC) is a Joint Commission accredited specialty hospital providing rehabilitation services to citizens of the State of New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

 
The Admission Nurse is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the admission process for new residents to the facility. This includes completing comprehensive assessments, ensuring regulatory compliance, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members, educating residents and families, and ensuring a smooth transition of care into the facility. The Admission Nurse serves as the liaison between hospital/facility staff, residents, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals during the admission process.

How does it get done?

 
Incumbent will conducts comprehensive nursing assessments upon admission, review hospital records, physician notes, and transfer documentation for accuracy and completeness. Ensure all consents, medical records and required forms are obtained and completed according to facility and regulatory standards. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and facility standards during the admission process. Coordinates with Social Services, Business Office, Dietary, Therapy, and other departments during admissions.  May provide direct patient / client care by implementing accepted nursing practices and institutional policies and procedures and perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

Patients in need of Rehabilitation for Chemical Dependency or Medical Rehabilitation.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have a Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing, strong assessment and care planning skills, knowledge of CMS, state, and federal regulations for nursing home admissions, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organized and able to manage multiple admissions at once, be compassionate, resident-centered approach with families and residents, an effective team collaborator with interdisciplinary departments. Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and schedules. Know clinical and nursing standards and practices accordingly for all ages 18 to 90 plus. Strive to continue learning and be receptive to new information and methodologies.  Strive to learn and incorporate management skills in performance of duties.

Minimum Qualification

 
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirement. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and must complete a Defensive Driving Course.

Working Conditions

 
Work is of medium to heavy demand.  Walking and standing may be required for most of the time on duty.  Moderate lifting of patients with assistance is essential.  Frequent reaching and handling and fingering of instruments and equipment is required.  Visual and auditory acuity s essential to perform designated duties.  Hours of work may be variable to meet the demands of the institution.  May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors.  May be in contact with hazardous and infectious agents where judgment as to necessary precautions is essential.  May be exposed to various degrees of emotional stress.This position will perform work in a hospital and office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Exposure to mentally and behaviorally challenged residents who may exhibit unpredictable and sometimes violent behaviors in volatile situations requiring crisis intervention may be required.
