This position is only open to current, permanent residents of the State of Colorado.

Requirements

The Work Unit:

The work unit exists to protect human health and the environment through the evaluation of potential or confirmed releases of hazardous substances and remediation of sites under federal or state authority. Projects in this work unit progress through the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) process, to include site discovery; site assessment; remedial investigation; alternatives analysis; decision documentation; remedial design; remedial action; and operation and maintenance. The unit works as a lead or supporting agency with the United States Environmental Protection Agency under CERCLA. Projects in this work unit also include Brownfields and those being addressed under the State of Colorado’s Voluntary Cleanup and Redevelopment Program (VCUP). The work unit seeks and fosters public involvement in selecting and implementing remedial actions which are: protective of human health and the environment; consistent with federal and state laws and policies; and technically sound, cost effective, and timely.  

What You'll Be Doing:

This position serves as the Bonita Peak Mining District (BPMD) Superfund Remedial Project Manager (RPM) and Voluntary Cleanup Project Manager (PM) for the Rico Residential Lead Cleanup Project (Rico Lead).  

Additionally, this position assists in performing duties in the Brownfields State Response Program including assisting the Brownfields Coordinator in administering cooperative agreement reporting, administering the Phase 1 and Phase 2 Targeted Brownfield Assessments (TBA) program, and assisting to the State Cleanup Program conducting reviews of VCUP applications on an as needed basis to familiarize themselves with the VCUP program processes.  This position requires excellent interpersonal and customer service skills as well as the ability to work independently as well as in/with a team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
 
Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in investigation and remediation of contaminated sites or closely related work related to environmental protection.


OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education in physical or environmental science, geology/hydrology, engineering and/or a closely related field and/or relevant experience in investigation and remediation of contaminated sites or closely related work related to environmental protection equal to six (6) years

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in physical or environmental science, geology/hydrology, engineering and/or a closely related field; 

  • Knowledge of and experience with elements of the Superfund process, such as Remedial Investigations/Feasibility Studies, Proposed Plan/Record of Decision, and Remedial Design/Remedial Action;

  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports that incorporate geologic/hydrogeologic  contaminant fate and transport with respect to mine impacted water;

  • Knowledge of mining impacted water geochemistry and treatment technologies;

  • Experience performing environmental site assessments including CERCLE site assessment and targeted brownfields assessments;

  • Experience developing contract statements of work, contract management, and construction oversight;

  • Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups with the demonstrated ability to collaborate and achieve consensus among multiple parties.



SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Colorado Driver’s License to operate a state vehicle
