New Mexico Department of Health Public Health Division provides quality safety net services to the communities where we have public health offices.  The Southeast Region covers 8 counties and has 10 public health offices throughout.

Why does the job exist?

 
The purpose of the Registered Nurse-Supervisor role is to provide comprehensive oversight of clinic operations in two locations to include planning, scheduling, and the delivery of clinical services and programs.  The Incumbent assumes the responsibility for carrying out the programmatic goals and objectives for programs offered in the local offices; assists in the development and maintenance of public health nursing standards, conducts surveys, studies, audits and evaluates programs offered in the office as requested; meets with community groups and agencies to promote integration of services and mobilization of community activities around health and prevention; prepares reports; performs related work as required.   Provides supervision for PHD Staff.

Key responsibilities include demonstrates nursing competency as mentor/trainer/manager of clinical services; demonstrates leadership skills and competency in supervisory practices; leads community development/outreach initiatives to promote public health programs; demonstrates adherence to Quality Assurance and Improvement practices.

Who are the customers?

 
Eddy County community and out lying areas encompassing the under-served and uninsured community members such as children, teens and adults in various life stages.  This position also is accountable to the PHD, program staff and community partners.

Ideal Candidate

 
1 Supervisory experience for 2 years minimum
2 Experienced in daily use of computers using email, MS Office products and Electronic Health Records
3 Knowledge of Eddy County community and resources
4 Client/Customer Service oriented
5 Associates Degree in Nursing or graduation from a NLN accredited program accepted by the New Mexico Board of Nursing and three (3) years paid experience as a Registered Nurse. Must be licensed in accordance with the Nursing Practice Act § 61-3-2 through 61-3-31 NMSA 1978 and 16.12.1 through 16.12.20 NMAC, as applicable.

Minimum Qualification

 
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and five (5) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

 
Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of New Mexico.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Work is typically performed in an office setting, exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to thirty (30) pounds and working in loud environments may be required. Intermittent travel is required for this position; to also include occasional overnight travel to attend mandatory meetings.  Outreach settings for vaccine/testing events required.
