The New Mexico Department of Health is a centralized state agency that ensures safety net services to all New Mexicans through the many programs and services.  The NMDOH, in order to ensure health equity, we work with our partners to promote health and well-being and improve health outcomes for all people in New Mexico.  Each employee has a role to help New Mexicans, and this role fills a critical need for the NE Region with a focus at the San Miguel Public Health Office and the Mora satellite Public Health Office.

This position supports the Northeast (NE) Region of New Mexico and assures that quality health services are provided for the population. This position works as part of the overall Public Health System in the NE Region in the 10 counties of the NE Region (Colfax, Guadalupe, Harding, Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Taos and Union counties) to address the unique public health challenges faced by the population. This position supports and delivers various public health programs, which may include, but is not limited to: Health Services such as Epidemiology and Response; Tuberculosis; Breast and Cervical Cancer screening and referral; STI screening, treatment and referrals; Immunizations; Family Planning; Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) services; Case Management; Community Outreach; Health Promotion; and Disease Management, through advocacy, adherence to clinical protocols, standing orders, education and policies and procedures.

How does it get done?

 
Key responsibilities of this position include providing supervision, direction, oversight and training of Health Services staff and operations. Providing clinical coverage --direct care-- in Health Services Programs, including but not limited to: Family Planning, Immunizations, Infection Prevention, Breast and Cervical Cancer, TB Treatment and Prevention, Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) services, Teen Health, Emergency Preparedness, Harm Reduction, Syringe Exchange and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.  The Public Health Nurse Manager (RN-S) directs clinic operations, policies, procedures and standing orders, clinical services, outreach and collaboration; assuring quality standards are followed and maintained in all Health Services operations and services; utilizing electronic systems, special projects, collaborating with other internal (NMDOH) and external partners.  The position also initiates, builds, strengthens and maintains relationships in the local communities to collaboratively assure the public health needs of the population is being addressed.

Minimum Qualification

 
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and five (5) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico, or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment
