Make a meaningful impact on community health as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health in Region 1, serving the New Orleans area. In this dynamic role, you will deliver advanced primary and preventive care across multiple clinic locations, supporting individuals, families, and communities with high-quality, patient-centered services.

Work collaboratively with physicians and a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care, education, and referrals while responding to evolving public health needs, including emergency and disaster response. Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or a temporary permit.

NOTE:
The temporary APRN permit allows an APRN applicant to work in a limited capacity for up to 120 days while awaiting review for full APRN licensure by the nursing board. An APRN applicant cannot medically diagnose or medically manage patients until they are licensed and have prescriptive authority. If the APRN license is not received within the 120-day period and the permit expires, the employee must be removed from the position.

·  This position involves routine statewide duties, including fieldwork, inspections, investigations, or direct services that extend beyond the employee’s domicile parish.

·  Conduct comprehensive health histories and physical examinations, develop and evaluate individualized plans of care, and perform clinical procedures such as pap smears, breast and pelvic exams, and LARC insertion.

·  Review and interpret laboratory and diagnostic data to determine diagnoses and prescribe medications and treatment plans within scope of practice.

·  Provide advanced primary and preventive healthcare services to individuals, families, and communities, coordinating care and resources as needed.

·  Counsel patients and families on health conditions, treatments, and preventive care, and coordinate referrals with other healthcare providers.

·  Identify community health needs and contribute to strategies, education, and outreach to improve population health outcomes.

·  Provide technical guidance and support to nursing and ancillary staff, participate in quality assurance and program evaluation activities, collaborate with medical and nursing leadership on clinical programs and practice standards, and maintain accurate medical records while assisting in staff training and educational programs.
