Step into a dynamic, region-wide leadership role as a Registered Nurse 4 (RN4) Float Nurse, where your skills will directly support and strengthen public health services across multiple communities. In this high-impact position, you’ll provide hands-on care across a variety of programs—from immunizations and maternal-child health to infectious disease and chronic care—while ensuring clinics remain fully supported and operational. You’ll also take on a key leadership role, guiding staff, stepping in where needed, and helping maintain continuity of care for patients across Region 3. The RN4 may also be called upon to assist during public health emergencies or disasters, including shelter assignments, as part of the region’s overall emergency response efforts.

Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:

Two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A bachelor's degree in nursing plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A master's degree in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A doctorate in nursing or public health.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as lead nurse in the absence of higher-level supervision, overseeing clinic operations and providing guidance to staff across multiple public health programs
  • Delivers comprehensive nursing care in OPH clinics (WIC, Reproductive Health, Genetics, Immunizations, STI, and TB) by conducting assessments, obtaining health histories, and implementing care plans
  • Provides patient education and preventive health guidance, while coordinating referrals to appropriate healthcare providers and community resources for follow-up care
  • Leads STI services by conducting assessments, collecting specimens, interpreting test results, administering treatment, and collaborating with Disease Intervention Specialists on investigations and education
  • Supports quality assurance by maintaining accurate immunization records, adhering to CQI standards, ensuring HIPAA compliance, and assisting with proper medical record management
  • Performs home visits for high-risk populations, including TB monitoring, Direct Observed Therapy (DOT), immunizations, and family support services such as SIDS follow-ups
  • Maintains clinical compliance and readiness by following state nursing regulations, adhering to CDC and OPH guidelines, managing medical equipment and vaccines, and participating in ongoing training and professional development
