The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana.



Step into a dynamic, high-impact role as a Registered Nurse 4 (RN4) serving Region 5, where no two days are the same. As a float lead nurse, you’ll travel across parishes, providing critical support to health units, leading nursing activities, and ensuring high-quality care across a range of public health programs. Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:

Two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A bachelor's degree in nursing plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A master's degree in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A doctorate in nursing or public health.

Job Duties:

·  Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care across multiple public health programs and service settings

·  Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments in clinics, communities, shelters, and designated service sites in accordance with program protocols

·  Performs patient interviews, obtains medical histories, records vital signs, and documents clinical findings, including in high-risk or underserved environments

·  Assists physicians and advanced practice nurses with examinations and delivers care in alignment with established standing orders

·  Provides STD-related services, including syndromic assessment, treatment, counseling, and follow-up care

·  Collects and processes laboratory specimens, interprets results, ensures accurate documentation, and maintains compliance with CLIA and OSHA standards

·  Administers medications, immunizations, and treatments; educates patients on usage, side effects, and follow-up care or referrals

·  Manages and monitors tuberculosis cases, including home and hospital visits, Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), and contact tracking

·  Maintains accurate patient records and enters clinical and billing data into electronic health systems; conducts record audits per guidelines

·  Participates in community outreach, health education initiatives, and emergency response efforts, including disaster assignments and medical needs shelters
