Division: Within the Dietary Services Department at ELMHS, Located in Jackson, LA

The Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System (ELMHS) provides comprehensive mental health services for adults, including evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation. Our programs span inpatient care, jail-based evaluations, forensic services, group homes, and long-term psychiatric care—all coordinated within Louisiana’s statewide system of care.

Requirements

Possession of provisional Louisiana dietitian/nutritionist license.

Job Duties:

In this role, you will:

  • Serves as a lead worker and specialist in initiating and implementing the nutrition care process on all patients admitted to the ELMHS by determining the level of nutrition risk or compromise and interventions needed to maintain or improve nutritional status.
  • Acts as an administrative specialist, independently managing inventory control and procedures when calculating food costs and allotment.  
  • Oversees the care of patients with acute or chronic psychiatric and medical conditions/diagnoses that compromise his/her nutrition status.
  • Develops and implements medical nutrition therapy care plans for patients identified to be moderately or severely nutritionally compromised.
  • Participates in Nutritional Services Quality Improvement Programming and serves as primary educator for formal and informal education provided to patients, staff, and Dietetic Interns.
  • Provides in-service training to food service personnel, performs tray audits, monitor food preparation and menu accuracy.
  • Conducts peer medical record audits.  
  • Reports monthly patient contact data, including food/drug interaction education.
