This posting will be used to conduct ongoing recruitment and will remain open until position has been filled.

Why does the job exist?

 
This position will provide therapeutic recreational activities within an established recreational program at a long-term care facility, to improve and enhance resident's coordination, motor skills and cognitive level as part of the resident's treatment plan.

How does it get done?

 
By conducting recreation activities with groups or one to one, by organizing and promoting activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, dramatics, social recreation, camping, and hobbies, taking into account the needs and interests of individual members.

Residents, Visitors and Employees at a long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate

 
Will have the ability to:
manage the daily operation of recreational activities
organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities, such as arts crafts, sports, games camping and hobbies.
listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
assess the needs and interests of individuals and groups and plan activities accordingly.

Minimum Qualification

 
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Employment Requirements

 
Will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.  Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.  Must possess and maintain a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification from the State of New Mexico or must receive Certified Nursing Assistant Certification within four (4) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses¿ stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Incumbent will work with mentally and/or behaviorally challenged residents who may exhibit unpredictable behavior in stressful situations.
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.,
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (¿CMS¿), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
