New Mexico Behavioral Institute provides mental health care to adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. The Rehabilitation Services Department offers classes/activities to promote social skills, health and wellness (body and mind) and basic job skills. The Vocation Department offers a paid Work Program to patients, clients assigned to Adult Psychiatric, Forensic and Adolescent
Care units who meet a set of requirements.

Why does the job exist?

 
Incumbent will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Turquoise Canteen and, provide supervision to work program participants assigned to work in the canteen. In addition, this position will assist other areas of Rehabilitation Services as needed or directed.

How does it get done?

 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Operating a cash register, inventory control, ordering from vendors, stocking, setting prices, supervising patients assigned to the work program, completing daily revenue reports and deposits.

-Completing documentation for work program participants, describing what they did and how they are doing in the work program.

-Reporting any concerns to the Work Program Coordinator.

All patients, residents, clients associated with NMBHI.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have some experience working in a store type setting, operating a cash register and/or a Point-of-Sale system.

-Experience dealing with inventory (ordering, tracking expiration dates, using the First In - First Out inventory method, stocking.

-Experience working with mentally ill population (adult and adolescents) is a plus.

-Being a team player.

-Having empathy and compassion and patience.

-Possessing a strong work ethic and willingness to be part of a team.

Minimum Qualification

 
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must possess a valid Drivers License

Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate

1.SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITIONS--This position ls designated as safely sensitive. Employment Is subject to pre-employment and random testing. In accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment ls subject to nationwide criminal background checks and is conditional pending results.
2.CRIMINAL RECORDS BACKGROUND CHECK-Must successfully complete post offer pre-employment criminal records background check. Employment is conditional pending the results of criminal records background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Working Conditions

 
This position will mainly perform assigned duties in a store (canteen) type setting and perform duties associated with managing a store. The incumbent will be required to supervise patients participating in the work program. This will include completing progress notes. Money handling, counting, depositing, drafting revenue reports and making deposits. Exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Exposure to mentally and behaviorally challenged residents who may exhibit unpredictable and sometimes violent behaviors.
