Public Health Policy Director

As the Public Health Policy Director, you will serve as a principal advisor to and as a member of the DPH Administrator’s Senior Leadership Team. This is a senior-level leadership position with the authority to lead and effect necessary change. You will report to the Division Administrator and be responsible for leading internal and external policy endeavors. Responsibilities will include providing direction and advice regarding division-level system initiatives that will strengthen the governmental public health system, improve population-based health outcomes, improve program service delivery, improve quality (efficiency and effectiveness), and improve internal and external customer satisfaction.

 You will create and lead policy-driven system initiatives to reduce systemic gaps in health outcomes, address determinants of health, and improve overall division performance, using the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) framework.  

Additional duties include:

  • Guiding public health systems strengthening efforts.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to maintain public health standards achieved through accreditation and leading the PHAB reaccreditation process.
  • Serving as a liaison with key staff across the division and department, including strategic initiatives coordinators, and staff leading efforts to address gaps in health outcomes.

You will work closely with other divisions and departments, federal agencies, key stakeholders and partners and communities.

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience working within state or local public health systems, including program administration, intergovernmental coordination, and implementation of core public health functions.
  • Experience with public health policy development, analysis and implementation.
  • Experience working with teams to develop and implement strategic plans (e.g. establishing goals and objectives, program monitoring, reporting on progress outcomes, etc.).
  • Experience managing and implementing projects across multidisciplinary teams or special project teams.

Well-qualified applicants will have one or more of the following:

  • Experience interpreting and articulating legislative and internal policies, administrative rules and statutory guidance.
  • Experience advising or influencing senior leaders or leadership teams on public health topics.
  • Experience preparing and presenting reports, policy documents, grants, or other documents using plain language communications.
  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Services Administration, Environmental Health, Public Administration, Social Services, or a related field.
