The New Mexico Department of Health, Public Health Division, is responsible for statewide coordination and implementation of programming and clinical services aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of all individuals residing in New Mexico. The Office of Food Systems is a new team within the Public Health Division, Office of the Director.

Why does the job exist?

 
The New Mexico Department of Health, Public Health Division, is establishing an Office of Food Systems which will lead and advance New Mexico¿s statewide Food Initiative by identifying priorities, driving implementation, and coordinating cross-agency strategies to strengthen the state¿s food system. The Office will oversee the development, execution, and monitoring of food-related programs, convene state agencies and partners to streamline services, and ensure alignment with statewide food policy priorities. This manager position will provide support across programming.

How does it get done?

 
This position will oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of statewide food program data, metrics, and outcome measures for the Food Initiative Data Dashboard and will be responsible for preparation of regular reports for state leaders, legislators, and funders summarizing progress, impact, and recommendations. The program manager will support the Director and senior program manager in convening and coordinating cross-agency working groups, committees, and task forces to streamline food programs. The program manager will support the office through cultivating strong relationships with local governments, tribal nations, nonprofits, community-based organizations, regional food hubs, producers, and federal partners. The individual is expected to maintain ongoing communication to understand needs, share state priorities, and support collaborative solutions.

Access to affordable and nutritious foods is key component in protecting the health and wellbeing of all New Mexicans. Improved food policy lowers long-term healthcare costs, improves quality of life, and strengthens food systems to benefit New Mexico's farmers, ranchers, and food producers. A strong food system improves resiliency and ensures food access and policy improves multi-sectoral outcomes across the state.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have greater than 5 years of experience in the collection, analysis, and tracking of program data, preferably related to food systems or food programming. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting gatherings with community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders. The individual should have a strong attention to detail and significant experience coordinating program, generating reports, and strong analytical and data experience to support statewide programmatic tracking. The ideal candidate has experience supporting translating data into programmatic and policy recommendations.

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

 
Work in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VTD) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Statewide travel, with the possibility of out-of-state travel and/or overnight travel, as required. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (bending, stooping and reaching).
