- Functions as the Education & Training Coordinator: Designs and delivers in-house and statewide training on cancer reporting, abstracting, coding (ICD-O, staging, treatment), and case finding according to national standard setters’ requirements, while providing opportunities for Alaskan ODS to earn NCRA-approved continuing education credits.
- Serves as the Quality Assurance Coordinator: Ensures statewide accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of cancer data through audits, edit analysis, and compliance monitoring aligned with NAACCR and NPCR standards.
- Leads the development, implementation, and documentation of the ACR quality assurance program, including updating operation reports, leading re-abstracting audits, providing feedback to reporters, edits, and corrective action for reporting facilities.
- Serves as a resource to cancer reporters by providing ongoing technical assistance and mentorship to health care facilities, produces a quarterly newsletter, and, when needed, helps cancer registrars resolve data discrepancies with reporting facilities.
- Participates in ACR operations, such as death clearance, quality control, and call-for-data submission activities. Attends staff meetings and participates in Department-wide meetings and trainings when required.Mission and Values/Culture:

As a member of the HAVRS team, you will have the opportunity to make important contributions to this mission and make a difference in improving the health and well-being of Alaskans. The Alaska Health Analytics and Vital Records Section (HAVRS) is chiefly responsible for the administration of:
- The Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) program collects records of newly diagnosed cancer cases, monitors trends, and participates in cancer investigations.
- The Alaska Vital Records system collects and issues records of vital events.
- The Alaska Health Facilities Data Reporting (HFDR) program collects records of inpatient and outpatient discharges.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is located in Anchorage, Alaska, at the Frontier building, 3601 C. Street, which offers free parking in a parking garage and is within a 5-minute walk of four stops for two popular bus routes. Staff share desk space with other staff within our Unit. The area includes Cuddy Park, the Loussac Library, and several food options, such as grocery stores, restaurants, and coffee shops, within walking distance or a five-minute drive from our office.

Qualifications
- Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certificate
- Three (3) professional references whom we may contact by phone, one (1) of whom must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
