This student worker position will assist and work primarily with the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) Program Coordinator and Data Manager and support other Maternal and Child Health (MCH) staff on specific program initiatives and projects. In addition, this position may help with periodic data collection and communication activities related to improving birth outcomes such as reducing prematurity rates and/or maternal mortality. The position also supports the MCH Section’s mission of providing statewide leadership and public health information essential for promoting, improving or maintaining the health and well-being of women, children, and families throughout Minnesota. 

Primary Job Responsibilities: 

  • Work with data manager to ensure timely mailings of surveys and incentives. 
  • Complete survey data entry and assist with tasks necessary to obtain survey data, such as looking up contact information from sampled mothers. 
  • Assist with preparing survey mailing packets and mailings Analyze complex survey data utilizing Statistical Analysis System (SAS), including analyses of operational data (e.g., comparing responders to non-responders).
  • Conduct literature reviews on various MCH topics assessed in the PRAMS Survey. 
  • Produce reports or information briefs or fact sheets of analyses results. 
  • Track and fill requests for PRAMS promotional materials and publications. 
  • Attend program, section, and advisory committee planning meetings and take minutes at advisory committee meetings. 
  • Assist in reviewing and updating program specific webpages, ensuring links and/or information are current and accurate. 
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and reserving meeting spaces. 
  • Support production of program recommendations through note taking, writing, and editing. 

This position is part-time and will work 20 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work are flexible within 8:00am to 12:30pm, Monday through Friday. This position is anticipated to last through June 30, 2027, or until the selected candidate completes their educational program, whichever occurs sooner. 

In accordance with HR/LR Policy #1422 Telework, this position is eligible for up to 50% telework for applicants who live in Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location. Candidates residing outside of Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location at the time of application must be able to relocate to Minnesota within 30 days of their start date. The telework policy may exempt employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement, depending on job requirements, helping the State of Minnesota access top talent across the state. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of post-secondary education

Student Worker Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree with current registration in a master’s or Doctoral program such as nursing, public health, epidemiology, social work, early childhood, public affairs, and public health, other health interest or research related fields.
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as: SAS, Microsoft Word, Excel, graphics, PowerPoint, Access. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff. 
  • Ability to communicate sufficiently to provide information to program staff, other state agency staff, professionals, and consumers as appropriate. 
  • Ability to prepare consumer and provider friendly documents. 
  • Ability to proof, edit, and format reports with high degree of accuracy. 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move 10-30 pounds.
