Central Louisiana State Hospital located in Pineville, Louisiana is seeking applicants for vacant positions in our Medical Clinic as a Phlebotomist 2 who accomplishes tasks in various blood therapies, component preparation, screening of donors, and using phlebotomy techniques.

The Phlebotomist 2 plays a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. The hospital is highly committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and with the state and regional mental health program to insure the integration and coordination of hospital-community services into a comprehensive system of mental health care.


Requirements

One year of experience as a phlebotomist plus one of the following:

One year of experience or training in nursing, phlebotomy, or as a medical lab assistant, medical lab technician, or in medical research that included drawing blood from patients; OR

Certification or eligibility for certification as a Phlebotomist by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners; OR

Twelve semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in a biological science or chemical science field, or nursing.

  • Under the supervision of the RN Supervisor A, performs venipuncture and a variety of laboratory services for psychiatric patients who may be hostile and dangerous, increasing the risk of injury and/or exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Collects blood specimens on those difficult-to-draw patients such as those with movement disorders and uncooperative patients requiring considerable explanation, discussion, and persuasion.  Collect adequate and correct blood specimens by venipunctures.

  • Prepares Laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, stool, and sputum for diagnostic evaluation.

  • Performs rapid chemical tests and analyses of body fluids and other material related to clinical medicine.

  • Collect data of all lab test done each month and work this data into a monthly report. Digitally generate monthly lab report and e-mail to Infection Control, Nursing Administration, and Supervisors.

  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor, but not listed, for the smooth operation of the unit/building and/or the facility.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday Day shift

Compensation: This position has a Minimum Hire Rate of $1,048.80 Bi-Weekly.
