Requirements

The Intern will assist the Georgia Department of Public Health Oral Health Director with coordinating data collection efforts and data analysis reports for the 2025-26 Basic Screening Survey of 3rd grade students.

JOB DESCRIPTION: During the 2025-26 school year the Office of Oral Health will be conducting a Basic Screening Survey (BSS) of third grade students. The BSS involves data collection throughout the state at multiple elementary schools. Our objective is to determine the current status of oral health of elementary school children in Georgia, to define barriers that exist throughout the state, and ultimately to have a usable data set to guide future program development. The student will have the opportunity to be part of the BSS process in a variety of ways. The intern will assist the Department of Public Health State Dental Director with collaborating with the Department of Education and elementary school partners, with coordinating data collection efforts, and with qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Intern will play a role in selecting data collection methods and coordinating these efforts with staff in the 18 health districts. Intern will communicate oral health content to school partners.

THE STUDENT WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASSIST WITH THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES:
1. Development of post survey documentation
2. Assist in communication and coordination of school screening data efforts across the State
3. Conduct and participate in local data collection efforts
4. Attend meeting and progress report sessions
5. Communicate audience appropriate oral health content to stakeholders and partners.

HOURS PER WEEK & DURATION: Approximate 10-18 hours per week for 10-20 weeks beginning January 15th, 2026. 

TRAVEL: Position is a hybrid position with the Office of Oral Health at 200 Piedmont Ave., Suite 1502, Atlanta.

Qualifications

MINIMUM TRAINING:
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field
2. Enrolled in Master’s in Public Health program

The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.

The candidate selected for this position may be subject to pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
