OPS MEDICAL ASSISTANT 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Routine Clinical Health
    1. Direct Patient Care 
      1. Prepares client for clinic visit; performs measurements for height, weight, temperature, medical history, and enters the information into the client’s chart. 
      2. Assists physicians with patient care, treatments, and procedures; Sets up trays and instruments for procedures, passes instruments. 
      3. Performs in-house laboratory testing as needed; including Venipunctures, urinalysis, hemoglobin, and pregnancy tests as needed and completes laboratory specimen collection and prepares specimens for in-house or outside laboratory analysis; assists in labeling and processing specimens obtained by providers. 
      4. Assists with client routing in the clinic area.  Maintains optimum clinic flow by preparing exam rooms and directing clients to various stations.  Identifies problems and seeks solutions in concert with clinic staff. 
      5. Bilingual Client Support: Provide essential Spanish translation services to assist clients with limited English proficiency.
    2. Supportive Duties 
      1. Prepares inventories and helps with ordering supplies and LARC devices following the FDOH guidelines. Processes reconciliation of received orders to ensure accuracy and accountability. 
      2. Assists in maintaining inventory of medical supplies, checks supply in lab, work-up area, and exam rooms daily. Maintains a clean and safe work environment by conducting routine checks of equipment and cleaning equipment in the lab, work-up area, and exam rooms.  
      3. Cleans, sterilizes, and stores equipment/instruments after procedure. 
      4. Monitors patient education material supplies and replenishes supply as needed before and during clinic sessions. 
      5. Anticipates and communicates deficiencies with supervisor. 
      6. Prepares and submits reports needed for state program requirements. 
  2. Care Coordination
    1. Assists providers in the care and follow up of clients with abnormal Papanicolaou (PAP) tests and receiving colposcopy procedures for the purpose of maintaining compliance with treatments and referrals.
      1. Ensures clients have been informed about abnormal results. 
      2. Coordination of repeat PAP’s as per Providers orders. 
      3. Schedules clients for colposcopy procedures 
      4. Prepares colposcopy room with supplies and required forms. 
      5. Assists Provider with colposcopy procedures. 
      6. Prepares and submits specimens to the lab. 
      7. Coordinates referrals to internal departments and/ or community agencies to ensure clients receive needed services. 
      8. Follows up with clients to ensure referrals are completed. 
      9. Updates Care Coordination Plan in HMS as needed. 
      10. Sends reminders and follow up letters when clients are non-compliant. 
  3. Routine Clerical Support
    1. Admissions
      1. Monitors the admission process ensuring adequate staffing and flow. 
      2. Ensures that proper documentation is obtained from patient. 
      3. Ensures proper forms and labeling are completed and sent into clinic. 
    2. Appointments
      1. Uses the Health Management System (HMS) to appoint time slots to patients
      2. Verifies all demographic and insurance information before securing appointment slot. 
  4. Other Duties
    1. Submits timesheets in Peoples’ First timely each pay period. 
    2. Enters Employee Activity Record System (EARS) into the HMS system timely, within a seven-day period. 
    3. Reads and utilizes e-mail daily to ensure proper communication between supervisor and co-workers on work related issues. 
    4. Participates in unit Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure quality assurance of primary care services. 
    5. Attends and participates in unit, division, and agency staff meetings. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of clinical procedures

  • Knowledge of EHR
  • Basic computer knowledge

 

Qualifications:

Minimum –

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One to three years of experience as a medical assistant
  • One to three years of phlebotomy experience
  • English /Spanish bilingual (written and oral forms)

Preferred –

  • Certification as a medical assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants, The American Medical Technologists, or the National Center for Competency Testing
  • One or more years of experience conducting patient intakes
