The Office of Alcohol Misuse Prevention is responsible for reducing excessive alcohol use in New Mexico and its associated adverse outcomes, especially alcohol-related deaths.

Responsibilities include:
Convene, manage, and support operations of the Tribal Alcohol Related Mortality (T.A.R.M) Workgroup. Assess, plan, and evaluate existing Tribal alcohol prevention, intervention, and treatment programs and gaps. Develop and disseminate culturally tailored materials for reducing alcohol mortality and related harms in Tribes, Pueblos, and Nations. Represent The Office of Alcohol Misuse Prevention at public events. Coordinate with other OAMP staff and provide assistance ensuring that overall OAMP strategies are responsive to the needs of and respectful of Tribes, Pueblos, and Nations along with their citizens. Work with the Office of Tribal Liaison as needed to respond to requests, contribute to reports, and support alcohol-related work and activities.

Have experience in:
1. Designing, implementing, and evaluating culturally grounded alcohol prevention programs for Native youth and families, integrating Indigenous traditions with evidence-based public health strategies.
2. Working with Native communities and knowledge of Tribal health systems.
3. Conducting Tribal outreach at health fairs, events, and community centers.
4. Community coalition and/or workgroup facilitation and substance misuse prevention program development.
5. Grant writing and resource development.
6. Organizing meetings.
7. Preparing written reports and communications for a variety of audiences and formats.
8. Collaborating effectively with teams.
9. Collaborating with elders, cultural leaders, and health councils to ensure programming reflects Tribal traditions and values.
10. Developing and delivering alcohol prevention education workshops in schools, clinics, and other community settings.
11. Coordinating culturally inclusive campaigns addressing binge drinking, underage drinking, and alcohol-related harms.
12. Understanding and promoting Tribal sovereignty.
13. Training department staff and Tribal community partners on culturally appropriate prevention strategies.
14. Strengthening community-driven health systems.
15. Supporting initiatives that effectively address Indigenous social drivers of health.
16. Background in behavioral health, social services, and/or public health.
Have the following knowledge and skills:
1. Familiarity with evidence-based prevention strategies and Indigenous cultural healing practices.
2. The ability to collect and analyze data to plan and evaluate prevention interventions.
3. Strong communication skills and Tribal community engagement skills.
Have the ability to serve as a liaison between the Department of Health, Tribal health clinics, behavioral health departments, community health programs, and external partners.
Minimum Qualification
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
