Your Specific Responsibilities:

• Certifies clients for participation in the WIC program in accordance with policies of the state WIC program and regulations stated in DHM 150-24 manual.  Provides nutrition education in a group or individual basis in the areas of infant, childhood, prenatal and postnatal (including breastfeeding) nutrition to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition habits. During each client contact sets specific goals, which encourage positive changes in their lifestyle. Coordinates nutrition education services for assigned clients and makes referrals for appropriate health and social services. Maintains a courteous working relationship with staff and the public. Promote and supports breastfeeding effort and initiative. Maintains client confidentiality and information security of records. Develops, monitors, evaluates and revises nutrition education plans for individual clients who are not at medically high nutritional risk.

• Selects, develops and evaluates client educational materials. Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures including  memos,   WiSE notes, FLWiSE System Guide and the DHM 150-24 manual. Understands the collections, entry and management of data as well as the operation of computer terminals and printers. Participates in development of nutrition education displays and materials. Participates in evaluation of the effectiveness of nutrition education activities and in the development of the biannual nutrition program plan.  Participates in quality improvement activities including agency biannual selfreview, records, and WIC Food instrument Stubs.

• Reviews and provides the necessary follow-up on assigned WIC program operational reports in a timely basis. Submits timesheets, EARS, and travel forms correctly, timely and in accordance with the established agency and division guidelines.   Assists in the provision of in-service training and attends and participates in staff meetings, in- service training and other professional and staff development activities. Participates in outreach activities. Assists with planning, implementing and evaluating the public health nutrition program for WIC clients, Health Department patients and staff.  Attends seminars and workshops on WIC policies and procedures, breastfeeding and nutrition to keep current in field.  

• Disburses WIC EBT and VOC/ID cards following standard procedure to eligible WIC participants.  Instructs clients on using the WIC EBT card. Obtains client signature for EBT card issuance letter. Records the necessary information on VOC/ID cards and EBT card log.  Reviews all data for accuracy and completeness.  Immediately reports any discrepancies to the clinic Supervisor. Informs participants when certification expires and what is required for recertification.  Keeps security/separation and inventory of VOC/ID and WIC EBT cards.  Loads benefits into WIC EBT account for household.

• Assists the supervisor with training of staff. 

• Collects data for the end-of-day and end-of- month reports as assigned and submits same to the supervisor on a timely basis.  Assists with inventories of WIC formula, equipment, and educational resources. Submits reports within the required timeframe.

• Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.  Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.  May be assigned to a special needs shelter during activation of Special Needs Shelter Plan

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge: Ability to operate a computer; perform health screenings with appropriate testing equipment; Skill in interpersonal relationships. Adheres to state statutes, rules and regulations, practices and procedures as they pertain to each of the program's functional areas.
Skills: Navigates the internet, uses office and necessary systems/software and standard office equipment and supplies related to position.
Ability: Ability to independently manage multiple work assignments according to applicable State of Florida and DOH rules, regulations and procedures with minimal supervision. Takes direction; accepts constructive criticism and responds and implements suggestions for improvement.
Communicate Effectively: Takes initiative to communicate accurate, up to date plans and information to peers and management. Expresses thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing. Listens and understands the views of others.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

• Bachelor Degree from a college or University with a major in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition.

• Valid Florida Driver’s License
