The Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ) at the California Department of Public Health (CPDH) focuses on ensuring and enhancing healthcare standard. Our programs encompass regulatory oversight, quality assessment, and collaboration with healthcare providers to safeguard public health. We strive to optimize patient care by implementing policies, conducting inspections, and fostering continuous improvement in healthcare delivery across the state. CHCQ also oversees the certification of nurse assistants, home health aides, hemodialysis technicians, and the licensing of nursing home administrators.



This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing the first level of supervision and training to field staff Nurse Surveyors (NS) responsible for surveying health care facilities and enforcing licensing and certification standards in accordance with State, Federal, and local laws and regulations. The Nurse Surveyor Supervisor I (Tr) reviews all reports, surveys and correspondence prepared by field staff, and State Fire Marshalls. The NSS I (Tr) communicates with the public and health facility operators/administrators on policy, procedures and regulatory interpretations. The NSS I (Tr) is responsible for working together with all the Program personnel to ensure quality work and performance, in order to achieve established goals 

• Experience providing lead direction, mentoring, or formal/informal supervision to clinical or regulatory staff.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and develop staff, including conducting training, reviewing work products, and ensuring consistent application of laws, regulations, and policies.
• Strong decision?making skills with the ability to prioritize workloads, manage competing deadlines, and support staff in complex field situations.
• In-depth knowledge of State and Federal licensing and certification requirements, including CMS regulations and survey protocols.
• Prior experience conducting, coordinating, or reviewing healthcare facility surveys, investigations, or compliance activities.
• Familiarity with long?term care facilities, acute care, home health, dialysis, or related healthcare delivery environments.
