Position Overview: 

The Mid-Level Provider works under the supervision of the Community Health and Wellness Division (CHWD) Clinical Lead and medical oversight by the CHWD Supervising Physician. The Mid-level provider will function as a healthcare provider for patients receiving family planning services in our Clinical Health Services (CHS) division by way of the HIV Prevention, Family Planning and Healthy Texas Women grants. This position will work with the clinical team to create and maintain efficient, and patient-centered care. Also supporting the daily clinical operations while providing comprehensive public health services to all Harris County Public Health patients qualified to received health services. This position will service the Riverside Health Clinic by providing comprehensive medical care to all patients served.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with the Texas Medical Board, Texas Board of Nurse Examiners, Nursing practice act, and Harris County Public Health (HCPH) procedures and protocols. Complies with US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) guidelines for treating/screening program-specific clients. 
  • Completes and reviews health histories, performs physical examinations, and reviews and orders appropriate laboratory tests and immunizations. 
  • Orders and monitors prescribed medication in accordance with Pharmacy D regulations.
  • Makes referrals to other providers or agencies, as appropriate.
  • Uses Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) expertise to serve as a mentor and resource person to all clinical staff.
  • Seeks to assure that policies and procedures are followed.
  • Assists with training new clinical staff.
  • Attends and actively participates in clinical provider meetings.

Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Education:

  • At least one (1) year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in an out-patient clinical setting.

Licensure:

  • Licensed to practice in Texas as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certified.
  • Valid TX Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and navigating Epic EMR. 
  •  Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
  • Knowledge of current CDC and DSHS guidelines for treating/screening program specific clients.

Qualifications

Licensures/Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certified

Experience:

  • Experience working in family planning medical clinics

Language:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time - regular position.
  • Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Must be willing to flex work hours when required, including weekends.
  • Able to travel within Harris County as needed.

Work Environment   

  • This job operates in a professional clinic environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

  • This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
