Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority (JPHSA) is a Local Governing Entity (LGE) created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1989. JPHSA is responsible for the management and operation of behavioral health and developmental disability Services in Jefferson Parish. JPHSA provides fully integrated primary and behavioral healthcare services through its JeffCare program.

The Developmental Disabilities Community Services (DDCS) Division provides services and supports to assist individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) to live in the least restrictive environments and to participate as fully as possible within their communities. The Medical Certification Specialist is a key position within JPHSA’s Developmental Disabilities Community Services (DDCS) Division. The incumbent is responsible for providing technical assistance and training to private support coordination and private service agencies providing Medicaid Home-and-Community-Based Waiver Services (Waiver Services).

Requirements

A current Louisiana license in a health services field, health regulation field, or social services field plus three years of experience in hospital or nursing home administration, health services, health regulation, or social services; OR

A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in hospital or nursing home administration, health services, health regulation, or social services; OR

A master's degree in a health services field, health regulation field, or a social services field plus two years of experience in hospital or nursing home administration, health services, health regulation, or social services.

Job Duties:

As a Medical Certification Specialist, you will, 

  • Maintain Critical Incident Reports (CIRs) within JPHSA, Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (OCDD) and Medicaid Waiver Guidelines such that each critical incident is resolved within 30 calendar days or extended prior to the expiration of the CIR
  • Participate in support team meetings with individuals/families, provider agencies, community resources, and support coordination agency representation, as needed, to address exploration and implementation of recommendations by the Local Governing Entity or community resources
  • Review CIR patterns and thresholds have been met; refer for Risk Mitigation at the Resource Center for further review and recommendations
  • Prepare resolutions for Legislative Audits to ensure all past CIRs identified have been addressed and resolved
  • Submit all death CIRs to the Mortality Review Committee to review the nature of deaths and provide feedback and recommendations
  • Identify situations that meets the criteria of the Urgent Triage and Diversion Process and submit referrals to OCDD

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment

Career Progression: This position does not participates in a Career Progression Group 

Work Schedule: Flexible work hours that may be outside of the traditional 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, schedule dependent on job duties.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
