The Jackson County Health Department, located in Commerce, is seeking a Medical Assistant. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, greeting clinic patients, reviewing patient medical history and information, and ensuring all required paperwork is complete. The Medical Assistant will assist nursing staff with pre-workup, including obtaining and measuring height, weight, blood pressure, and HgB. Duties also include collecting blood or other laboratory specimens as directed by nursing staff, preparing and logging specimens, collecting fees for service, answering phones, obtaining confidential patient information, entering data into the computer system, and filing paperwork.

The position requires strong customer service and computer skills. The Medical Assistant may be asked to work at the Jefferson Clinic in addition to the Commerce location.

Training will be provided in both front-office duties, such as greeting clients and obtaining demographic and insurance information, and back-office duties, including obtaining vital signs and specimen collection.


As a Medical Assistant within the Jackson County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

  • Calling and greeting clinic patients, reviewing patient medical history and information, and assuring correct paperwork is present.
  • Assist nursing staff with pre-workup, obtain and measure height, weight, and blood pressure.
  • Collect blood or other laboratory specimens as directed by nursing staff, prepare and log specimens.
  • Other duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to collect fees for service, answer phones, obtain confidential information from patients
  • Check-out patients, assist with referral processing and arrange laboratory services.
  • Working in the WIC progam. Duties to include: client work-up including height, weight, hemoglobins etc..

Qualifications

Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; or High School diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in medical assisting.

The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
