This position is part of the Northwest Region Public Health Division within the NMDOH. The position is located in Albuquerque at the Midtown Public Health Office.

Why does the job exist?

 
This position performs Phlebotomy duties such as blood draws for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Tuberculosis (TB), Family Planning (FP), and any other client obtaining services at Midtown. Performs on-site tests for hemoglobin, urine pregnancy tests and urinalysis. Obtains, processes, packs, and assures shipment of client specimens for all testing. Assists in ordering lab supplies, stocking lab and exam rooms. Provides support to the clerical, clinical and laboratory teams.

How does it get done?

 
Provide client services by performing venipuncture and fingerstick blood collection. Provide this service to all Midtown clients needing phlebotomy. Correctly prepare and process laboratory specimens. Follow all applicable CLIA, OSHA, and HIPPAA regulations. Assist clinicians with other labs.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate has experience:

Performing blood draws, processing specimens, and packaging shipments

Working with diverse client populations (age, cultural, gender, ethnicity, mental/physical)

Working with clients with diverse lifestyle patterns

Working in a team environment

Computer proficiency-electronic health record

Spanish speaker preferred

Minimum Qualification

 
High School Diploma or equivalent

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico, or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment

Working Conditions

 
Services are performed in a public health office clinic, and on occasion at auxiliary or community sites with potential for exposure to communicable diseases.  Work is performed in an office with computer usage and exposure to visual display terminals, standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs required. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic populations many of whom do not speak the English language.
