Why does the job exist?

 
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports 46 states and 6 U.S. territories and freely associated states via the Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality (ERASE MM) program/grant. This funding supports Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) to identify, review, and characterize pregnancy-related deaths; and identify prevention opportunities.

The NM Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) provides diverse, multidisciplinary expertise to review each death occurring during pregnancy or within one year of a pregnancy to determine:

- Pregnancy-relatedness
- Contributing factors
- Prevent-ability
- Actionable recommendations to prevent future deaths

How does it get done?

 
The Senior Health Educator position coordinates program activities to prevent maternal mortality, including addressing disparities among diverse populations. 

- Coordinate grant requirements for the CDC ERASE Maternal Mortality Program.
- Provide administrative coordination and support to the Maternal Health (MH) Program Manager, ERASE Grant Coordinator, MH Fiscal Coordinator, MMRC and its executive committee, and operational staff who fulfill specific roles related to abstraction, analysis, communications, and community engagement and partnership. 
- Contribute to Title V Maternal Child Health Block Grant requirements and activities related to maternal and perinatal domains.
- Develop relationship and support meeting logistics and minutes, orientation and administrative tracking of MMRC memberships.
- Assist with coordination of multi-disciplinary team meetings.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have deep personal knowledge of New Mexico communities impacted by maternal mortality with an understanding of the diverse cultural nuances around discussing death and grieving. The candidate should also have:

- Good writing, communication, and customer service skills.
- Experience with facilitation and finding resolutions.
- Strong Microsoft word and Excel knowledge.
- Experience with Web-Based Systems.

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Education and one (1) year of experience in a health-related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Office setting. Sitting for long periods of time viewing computer monitor. Repetitive hand movement. Standing, walking, lifting up to 20 lbs. Use of computer, copier and telephone. Occasional travel may be required.
