This is a grant-funded position.

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker provides facility and logistical support through the installation and assembly of office furniture, fixtures, and workspace equipment. Performs general building upkeep and minor repairs while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized environment. Assists with fleet monitoring, equipment setup, environmental controls, and facility preparations to support daily operations and special events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installation & Facility Setups: Assembles and installs office furniture, such as desks, workstations and heavy duty shelving racks and mounts and hangs fixtures, whiteboards, TV brackets and signs throughout the department. Additionally, rearranges & moves heavy furniture and equipment to optimize workspaces.

  • General Building Upkeep & Repair: Performs non-licensed handiwork & building upkeep such as drywall patching, minor painting, carpentry, and routine walk-throughs to identify cosmetic or safety issues. Keeps work areas clean and organized, ensuring all locations are free of debris after repairs or installations.

  • Vehicle Maintenance & Fleet Safety: Oversees the condition and maintenance scheduling of vehicles used to transport tools and materials, performing routine safety checks (checking fluids, tire pressure, and lights) and documenting service needs. Ensures full compliance with vehicle safety regulations by maintaining accurate logs and detailed maintenance records.

  • Environmental Control & Equipment Support: Deploys and monitor portable HVAC units or heaters based on seasonal weather conditions, and assist with un-boxing, placing, and setting up basic lab and facility equipment. Additionally, supports emergency preparedness by readying facility spaces and transporting equipment for special events or unexpected disruptions.

Requirements

Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirements:
  • (3) years of experience in facility maintenance, general handiwork or similar.
Licenses:
  • Valid Texas driver's license for operating department vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • General Maintenance Proficiency: Basic knowledge of hand and power tools required for furniture assembly, mounting fixtures, and minor building repairs like drywall patching.
  • Operational Awareness: Ability to follow safety procedures for vehicle inspections, equipment deployment (like HVAC units), and the safe lifting of heavy items.
  • Organizational & Technical Skills: Capable of maintaining basic digital or paper records for maintenance logs and following instructions for the setup of office or lab equipment.

Qualifications

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time | grant-funded position.

  • Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

  • Hours may vary based on department needs and may include evening and weekend hours during emergency events.

Work Environment:

  • This job is primarily in the field (multi-site support) with driving and on-site support. Role routinely utilizes computers and phones to fulfill work obligations.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods to complete installations and repairs.

  • Ability to safely lift and maneuver items over 50 lbs, such as desks, shelving racks, and portable climate units.
