Central Louisiana State Hospital located in Pineville, Louisiana is seeking applicants for vacant positions in our Medical Clinic as a Licensed Practical Nurse 1-3 who provides basic nursing care to assigned patients/clients in stable conditions and in predictable situations in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act.

The Licensed Practical Nurse 1-3 plays a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. The hospital is highly committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and with the state and regional mental health program to insure the integration and coordination of hospital-community services into a comprehensive system of mental health care.



Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Job Duties:

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

  • Provides practical nursing for adult patients with psychiatric and coexisting medical/physical problems. Performs all nursing duties required and serves as a role model to lower level nurses and paraprofessionals.

  • Assists LIP with newly admitted patients, medication reconciliation, review of documents, etc.   Performs/assists LIP with physical exams, visual acuity, hearing screen, EKG, lab requisitions, X-ray requisition, pelvic and Pap smear. Responsible for getting LIP's signature on all EKG's and hearing screenings. Document procedures done on patient records and logbooks. Maintains Medicare sheets for hearing screenings and EKGs.

  • Prepares patients for exams and explains any procedures done.   Assists with collection of specimens, sutures, wound care and other treatments. Takes vital signs, weights and other measurements as needed. Schedules daily sick call for patients.

  • Under the supervision of the RN Supervisor A, performs venipuncture and a variety of laboratory services for psychiatric patients who may be hostile and dangerous, increasing the risk of injury and/or exposure to blood borne pathogens.

  • Collects blood specimens on those difficult-to-draw patients such as those with movement disorders and uncooperative patients requiring considerable explanation, discussion, and persuasion.  Collect adequate and correct blood specimens by venipunctures.

  • Explains sterile venipuncture technique to patients. Prepares and performs sterile venipuncture in keeping with standard protocol on patients to obtain blood for requested analysis. After performing venipunctures, observes patients for possible reactions, and reports observations to a physician or other professional medical personnel.  Records venipunctures.

  • Prepares Laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, stool, and sputum for diagnostic evaluation.

  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor, but not listed, for the smooth operation of the unit/building and/or the facility.

Appointment Type:   Probational, Promotional, WAE, or Job Appointment

Career Progression:  This position may be filled as a Licensed Practical Nurse 1, 2, or 3 depending on experience.

Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts Depending on Team

Compensation: This position has a SER (Special Entrance Rate) of $1,558.40 Bi-Weekly for an LPN 1, $1667.20 for an LPN 2, and $1784.00 for an LPN 3.  Position is eligible for Premium Pay of $10.00 per hour and Longevity Pay starting at $2.00 per hour.
