This is a grant-funded position.



Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Logistics and Fleet Technician is responsible for supporting warehouse operations, inventory management, and logistics coordination, including operating material handling equipment, processing shipments, and maintaining accurate inventory records. Provides transportation of materials and supplies between facilities while ensuring proper documentation and safety compliance. Assists with fleet maintenance, event logistics, and emergency response activities to ensure operational readiness and effective support of organizational needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:
Warehouse Operations & Inventory Management:

  • Operates heavy machinery, including forklifts and pallet jacks, safely moving, stacking and retrieving materials. 

  • Manages inventory, executes daily cycle counts, reconciles inventory level to ensure data integrity, and handles order picking, packing, and internal distribution tasks. 
  • Oversees receiving operations at dock, documents discrepancies, and maintains an organized, safe warehouse environment using FIFO practices.
Transportation & Materials Management:
  • Transports materials, medical supplies, and equipment using fleet vehicles while maintaining accurate transport records and ensuring chain-of-custody. 
  • Coordinates scheduled deliveries and pickups across multiple Harris County Public Health (HCPH) facilities to ensure timely and efficient operations.
Vehicle Maintenance & Fleet Safety:
  • Performs routine safety inspections of fleet vehicles, coordinates maintenance with external vendors, and maintains detailed service records. 
  • Ensures all warehouse and transport equipment complies with safety regulations while managing comprehensive vehicle logs. 
Event Support & Facility Coordination:
  • Provides comprehensive event logistics support by loading, delivering, setting up, and breaking down equipment for community health fairs and special events. 
  • Assists with facility operations and inventory needs and collaborates with program leads to ensure all logistical requirements for public outreach activities are properly met.

Emergency Response & Preparedness:
  • Responds to emergency transport and logistics needs during business disruptions or public health crises, supports emergency preparedness activities, including the mobilization of strategic national stockpile (SNS) materials, and maintains "mission-ready" status for all emergency response equipment and supplies.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent 

Experience: 

  • (3) years of experience in warehousing and/or logistics. 

Licensure: 
• Valid Texas Driver's License with clean driving record. 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Inventory: Proficient in warehouse management systems, cycle counting, and accurate order picking/ticket preparation. 

  • Equipment Operations: Skilled in the safe operation of industrial equipment including forklifts, pallet jackets, and delivery vehicles.

  • Logistics Coordination: Strong organizational skills to manage stock rotation, event equipment setup, emergency supply transport.

Qualifications

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
  • Full-Time | Grant-Funded Position

  • Monday – Friday | 8 am – 5 pm
  • Hours may vary based on department needs and may include evening and weekend hours during emergency events.
Work Environment:
  • This job is primarily in the field with driving and on-site support, often at the warehouse. Role routinely utilizes computers and phones to fulfill work obligations.

Physical Demands:
  • This position requires heavy physical work, including frequent lifting, carrying, or moving objects over 50 lbs., and bending and standing for periods of time.
Work Location:
  • Harris County Public Health (1111 Fannin, Houston, 77002)
Physical Requirements:
  • Persons in these positions frequently lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to 15 lbs. They also occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 lbs., and sometimes, but rarely, up to 50 lbs.

    Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
