As a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Twiggs County Health Department in Jeffersonville, Georgia, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. Requirements

Under general supervision, provides clinical support to public health nurses and county programs. Performs patient care duties within the scope of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practice in public health, including administering medications and injections, providing prescribed medical treatments, and carrying out assigned clinical responsibilities to support public health operations.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities  


  • Provides direct patient care consistent with LPN scope of practice in public health.
  • Administers vaccines, biologicals, and injectable medications in accordance with Georgia Immunization Program protocols and documents assessments and administration in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Performs tuberculosis (TB) testing, interprets results, administers TB medications under directly observed therapy (DOT), and collaborates with supervising RN and TB Program Coordinator for appropriate follow-up and treatment.
  • Orders and collects laboratory and diagnostic tests as appropriate and reports abnormal results to supervising RN.
  • Provides patient education, counseling, health promotion, and makes appropriate referrals to internal and external health programs.
  • Conducts screenings and clinical services such as STD Fast Track services, pregnancy assessment, child health, vision, and scoliosis screenings; assesses conditions such as head lice and provides education and non-prescription therapies as appropriate.
  • Documents patient history, assessments, treatments, education, and follow-up in the EMR under RN supervision.
  • Participates in waived onsite lab testing, quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) activities, chart reviews, protocol development, and other performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in community outreach, health promotion, and public health education events to enhance awareness and utilization of available resources and programs.
  • Supports emergency preparedness planning, response, drills, and training activities in collaboration with district and local partners.
  • Completes all required initial and annual training, including LPN training modules and mandatory public health training such as HIPAA, Bloodborne Pathogens, and emergency preparedness.
  • Performs additional professional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Vocational/Technical degree in licensed practical nursing from an accredited college and two years of LPN public health experience and current Georgia license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse and CPR certification.

The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.
