This is a full-time, non-permanent Health Services Consultant 2 (HSC 2) position located at our Tumwater, WA DOH office.

Join our team as a Lead Health Services Consultant, where you will provide technical credentialing consultation and assistance to health services providers and staff within health licensing, a public health program closely linked to the Department's mission.

The Office of Health Professions (OHP) contributes to the Washington Department of Health mission by working with advisory committees, boards, commissions, and partner commissioners to regulate health care providers in 101 different professions. We handle the licensing, credentialing, and regulation of these health professions to protect public health and ensure a qualified, diverse, and supported health workforce while promoting equitable access to healthcare for all Washingtonians.


By performing credentialing activities, including evaluation of applicant ability to qualify as health care practitioners, you’ll help us support critical health services in Washington!


Key Responsibilities Include

  • As a journey level professional, conducts assessments of credentialing applications and implements licensing and regulatory policies for public health programs.
  • Provides technical consultant and assistance to health service providers and staff on difficult questions and complex, non-standard regulatory and licensing activities for Credentialing.
  • Provides expertise, support and guidance to Credentialing Specialists in resolving complex inquiries and issues.  
  • Identifies complex, irregular issues and provides recommendations to solve them.

Location and Flexibility

Enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work environment, where you can balance working from home and collaborating in the office.  It is anticipated that you’ll be expected at the DOH facility located in Tumwater, WA for work activities up to 4 days a month.



Required Qualifications 

You must meet the required qualifications below and any additional criteria listed. Experience may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile. 


  • Two (2) or more years of experience processing applications for a health profession or facility credentialing program.  

  • One (1) year or more experience working with a complex regulatory, permitting, or licensing database.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience resolving customer inquiries, problems or complaints in a high production environment.

  • Six (6) months’ experience and an ability to use computer software as follows:

  • Word processing software such as Microsoft Word to create, format, edit, preview, print, and save documents.  Ability to use standard functions to select, edit, copy, paste, format, and spell check text.
  • Electronic communications and calendar programs, such as Outlook, to compose, send, and respond to electronic mail, and coordinate schedules and schedule meetings.   
  • Electronic database system to update or maintain records.
  • Accessing and searching internet to find and download information.

As well as the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies:

  • Ability to learn, retain, and apply new information regarding procedures, rules, policies and requirements for credentialing multiple health care professionals. Able to stay current with, and be able to explain HSQA credentialing processes and procedures, applying commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field of credentialing.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to work within a secure work environment with highly sensitive and confidential materials.  
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet strict guidelines, while maintaining the integrity of the guidelines.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications


  • Additional years of experience processing applications for a health profession or facility credentialing program.  

  • One or more years of experience reviewing documents and taking appropriate action based on an analysis of the information. 

  • Associate degree or higher education.


Three or more years of demonstrated knowledge and understanding of credentialing requirements, processes and procedures. Familiarity with commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field of DOH credentialing.

Conditions of Employment:

This position is covered by a bargaining unit for which the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is the exclusive representative.
