Why does the job exist?

 
This position will provide laundering services to residents at a long-term care facility.  Duties include but not limited to; receiving, sorting, and loading laundry into washing machines and dryers, fold and deliver laundered items, pick up laundry bags, maintenance of dryers, cleaning out dryer filter, ironing, operating steam tunnel, pressers, folder, and marking machines.

How does it get done?

 
Pick up soiled laundry from neighborhoods
Load articles into washers or dry-cleaning machines, or direct other workers to perform loading. 
Start washers, dry cleaners, driers, or extractors, and turn valves or levers to regulate machine processes and the volume of soap, detergent, water, bleach, starch, and other additives. 
Operate extractors and driers, or direct their operation. 
Remove items from washers or dry-cleaning machines, or direct other workers to do so. 
Sort and count articles removed from dryers, and fold, wrap, or hang them.
Deliver laundered items back to residents on the neighborhoods.

Residents, Visitors and Employees at a long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate

 
Will have:
The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
The ability to provide customer and personal service.

Minimum Qualification

 
Eighth grade education.

Employment Requirements

 
Will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.  Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an institutional laundry setting as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses¿ stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.,
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the nursing personnel, and other department directors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (¿CMS¿), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
Extended periods of standing or mobility and working in excessive humidity on wet slippery surfaces with steam operating machinery, and high-pressure air operated equipment may be required.
