Why does the job exist?

 
This position functions as an IT Systems Administrator I for the Infrastructure, Operations, and Network (ION) Bureau for the
Department of Health (DOH). The position will ensure optimal functionality of all DOH datacenters, hardware and software, and
will help manage our enterprise infrastructure, visiting sites when required. The ideal candidate loves being the person who can
work across all teams and bureaus within the Information Technology Services Division with a deep understanding of the
technologies at each level, and the ability to deliver enterprise solutions for our DOH divisions and programs. You will observe
where gaps may exist between currently implemented technologies and be excited about filling in those gaps by taking proactive
steps to improve service delivery and prevent outage emergencies. You will work within a Service Management Platform by
accepting, documenting, and completing task and project tickets that are assigned to you and your team service area. You will
provide support to customers in-person, via telephone, email, self-service portal, and using remote tools to troubleshoot, analyze,
diagnose, and resolve service requests including file server availability, folder permissions, backup and restore operations, and
system outage restoration. You will install, configure, and update software and hardware in support of NM DOH Hyper-converged
infrastructure maintaining high availability of system resources. You will help to ensure optimal availability and utilization of
infrastructure resources, working cooperatively with other NMDOH ITSD staff, and adhere to NM DOH technology standards. You
support systems that serve the programs that NM residents are dependent upon.

How does it get done?

 
The position is a member of the ITSD Infrastructure Operations Network (ION) Bureau and is responsible for that administration of
all Datacenter operations in a complex VMWare, Azure, Hyperflex, Nutanix, Dell, and Cohesity environment. Additional
responsibilities include resolution of service ticket requests escalated to the Datacenter Team from the DOH Service Desk. Tasks
include data structure and permissions configuration, backup and restore operations, hardware installs, hardware configuration,
monitoring and performance tuning in support of the NM DOH Hyper-converged infrastructure. This includes emergency
responses to specific events including coordination with critical staff and supporting event responders in a timely manner. The
position is also responsible for prioritizing multiple incidents based on customer impact and severity. Multi-tasking is required to
perform actions in an optimized order to accomplish many tasks at once and achieve an overall successful rate of task resolution.
Finally, the position is responsible for investigating the cause of each incident, evaluating the possible solutions, and selecting the
appropriate course of resolution. The selected candidate will also serve as backup to the other team members.

Who are the customers?

 
This position provides support for the entire Department of Health enterprise infrastructure.

Ideal Candidate

 
At least (4) years of experience managing physical and virtual servers (Windows and Linux) in large and complex networks.
Experience administering Cisco Nutanix/Hyperflex, VMWare/vSphere and ESXi, Azure, Dell Server, Cohesity Backup and Recovery.
Experience administering Cohesity File Shares and other file sharing environments.
Managing and maintaining an enterprise level Active Directory environment.
Experience with installing and configuring server and storage hardware devices.
Experience with Virtual and Physical Server Administration (i.e. resource upgrades, firmware updates, OS patches, etc.)

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in systems administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage and sitting for extended period of time. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Occasional travel may be required.
