Why does the job exist?

 
The purpose of this position within the DevOps team in the Information Technology Services Division will be to serve as a Database Administrator for the New Mexico Department of Health.

How does it get done?

 
This position will work within our three person database administration team and be responsible for the support, management, maintenance, and operation of our 300+ Microsoft SQL databases, our 50+ Microsoft SQL database servers, and multiple SAS servers.  The applicant will need to create and maintain databases, manage permissions, perform server and software maintenance, monitor databases, upgrade databases, perform database backups and restores, plan and perform On Premise to Cloud database migrations, troubleshoot issues, write and modify SQL queries, and provide long term planning and guidance.  This position will work directly with, and will need to communicate effectively with, our DBA team, our DevOps team, DOH Program partners, external Program partners, ITSD staff and Leadership, DOH management, and other technical staff at the Department of Information Technology (DoIT).  This position requires the ability to perform and accomplish job requirements with minimal direction and/or supervision; the ability to work successfully in a team environment; and the ability to apply industry best practices.

Ideal Candidate

 
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Database Administration, SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS),  SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SAS Servers, and Microsoft Azure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
-The ability to adapt and to thrive in an ever changing, fast paced environment.

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in data analysis, design, storage, and security. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
