Information Specialist IV

Are you a master communicator who can turn complex policy into compelling stories and lead the conversation during the moments that matter most? The Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) is looking for an Information Specialist IV. In this high-impact role, you will be supporting both the division and the Utah State Developmental Center (USDC), acting as a bridge between technical subject matter experts and the general public and report directly to the Division Director. You will lead outreach efforts, manage high-profile communications, and ensure our mission is represented with accuracy and integrity.  

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the single point of contact for the Division
  • Prepare and brief leadership for media requests
  • Develop and disseminate information to media and the public.
  • Coordinate and facilitate quarterly meetings with providers, support coordinators, self-advocates, and families
  • Act as a liaison between the division and external organizations or partners.
  • Collaborate with leadership to communicate strategic initiatives progress reports and updates
  • Translate complex technical information into readable accessible content.
  • Supervise staff in completing public education assignments; develop and conduct training for staff or the public regarding division programs and goals.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • At least 2 years of directly related professional experience in public affairs, communications, and writing content
  • Demonstrated experience in professional writing, editing, and project planning.
  • Experience managing communications in a large entity 
Preferred:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field
  • Previous experience managing communications for public hearings or governmental initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency in creative software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) for publication and brochure design.

  • This position will be required to be in the office at least two days per week, and may need to come in other days should there be a need. One of the in office days will be at USDC.
