This position is part of the Northwest Region Public Health Division within the NMDOH.  The position is located at the SE Heights Public Health Office in Albuquerque.

This position promotes public health and participates in the role of building healthier communities in New Mexico by providing essential vaccines for children and adults.

How does it get done?

 
Providing vaccines to children and adults in public health offices and community settings per vaccine program guidelines

Organizing vaccine outreach in collaboration with community partners.

Promoting public health and participate in its role of building healthier communities.

Integral member of the local Health Office Teams. This position requires a self-starter who can make critical decisions, follow protocols, and know when to seek advice or refer to other providers.

A nurse in this role must:

Provide clinical support/services in the PHO clinics and outreach sites utilizing protocols/provider orders.

Participate in community and school collaboratives, specifically immunization outreach.

Comply with federal, state, division and regional guidelines.

Who are the customers?

 
The customers are New Mexicans, with an emphasis on under-served residents in the SE section of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque refugee population.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate for this position must possess and maintain a current New Mexico Registered Nursing license or eligible for licensure in accordance with Nursing practice Act 61-3-2 through 61-3-+31 NMSA 1978 and 16-1-1 through 61-12-20 NMAC, as applicable.

The ideal candidate has experience:

-Delivering highly specialized public health services to the people in New Mexico
-Ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols and procedures.
-Ensuring compliance with pharmacy and vaccine program regulations
-Providing immunizations, preparing and administering medications based on nursing-initiated protocols or physician orders.
-Preparing and administering medications ordered by nursing-initiated protocol, standing orders and/or adjust treatment plan based on physician's orders.
-Excellent communication skills: ability to discuss/elicit sensitive information and provide accessible health education in nonjudgmental manner.
-A desire to provide outstanding care to the people of New Mexico.

Minimum Qualification

 
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico, or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment

Working Conditions

 
Services are provided in a clinic, auxiliary and community sites, and occasionally in the client's home with potential exposure to communicable diseases and computer usage for a variety of clinic and office functions. Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of office noise, bending, standing and lifting. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic populations, many who do not speak the English language. Some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
