INTERVIEWS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE CONDUCTED WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF CLOSING DATE.

The Communicable Disease Bureau (CDB) within the Center for Healthy and Safe Communities (CHSC) oversees programs to respond to common infectious diseases including HIV, STD, hepatitis and TB, while also providing services for child and adult immunization/vaccination and refugee health.  A number of programs are partially funded with grants from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) including HIV prevention, STD, hepatitis, TB and immunization.  The bureau sets policies and clinical protocols and manages contracts to reduce the spread of communicable disease across New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

 
This position is responsible for developing, coordinating and providing key trainings of the HIV, STD and Hepatitis Section, including the HIV and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Testing and Counseling training and specialized trainings on other topics related to HIV prevention and harm reduction.  It ensures that NMDOH Disease Prevention Team (DPT) and contracting agency staff complete training and certification to allow them to deliver infectious disease prevention and testing services in a fashion that complies with department and federal guidance, protocols and best practices.  Assists in data analysis for HIV prevention grants for CDC, including those related to delivery of best practice HIV prevention and testing.

How does it get done?

 
The position will be responsible for:

Coordinate and convene trainings offered by the HIV, STD and Hepatitis Section, including those offered by national and state partner agencies.

Oversee, update and maintain the HIV Prevention Program¿s presence on the internet.

Facilitate and oversee the CDC-mandated Materials Review process. 

Provide leadership on statewide HIV prevention efforts delivered at a community level that target populations at greatest risk, including culturally specific and appropriate efforts for ethnic/racial minority groups, youth and gay/bisexual men.

Ideal Candidate

 
Related bachelor's degree OR 3 years minimum working in infectious diseases, with an emphasis on HIV, other reportable sexually transmitted diseases (STD), and hepatitis C.

Excellent communication skills.

1 year minimum in public speaking, educational presentations and/or health-related training.

Proficiency in multiple computer applications.

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Education and one (1) year of experience in a health-related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Ability to lift up to forty (40) lbs. Occasional in-state travel required.
