Food Service Worker

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is seeking a Food Service Worker to join our team. This is a full-time position with rotating days, weekends, and holidays.

We’re looking for a reliable team member to join our food service staff! In this role, you’ll help 

with the diet line, check in food deliveries to ensure everything meets our quality standards, 

follow recipes, and assist with basic food prep. You’ll also help set up the cafeteria, wash and 

put away dishes, and keep equipment, appliances, sinks, cabinets, tables, and carts clean and ready 

for use.

We’re hoping to find someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys helping others, and is committed 

to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone we serve.

What you’ll do:

•  Assist with meal service and related food preparation tasks.

•  Help keep dietary items, workspaces, and equipment clean and organized.

•  Support daily operations by completing other duties as needed.

 What you should know:

•  Basic methods and best practices for food preparation and service.

•   Principles of food sanitation and how to maintain a safe food environment.

•  How to properly care for and use food service utensils and equipment.

CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services includingindividualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan.
