DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform cluster detection and response activities to identify localized outbreaks and contribute to timely intervention strategies. 
  • Apply advanced statistical methodologies to perform and assist with cluster analysis, providing insights into patterns and aiding targeted response strategies.
  • Assist in identifying and addressing gaps in programs and services revealed by detection and response efforts, ensuring a comprehensive public health approach.
  • Gather required investigational findings related to clusters and outbreaks, synthesizing them into comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, community leaders, and other relevant entities, to enhance the effectiveness of cluster detection and response initiatives.
  • Apply knowledge and experience using data analysis software, particularly SAS, (or python) to conduct a thorough analysis and draw meaningful insights from complex datasets. 
  • Utilize data visualization software, such as Power BI, to create clear and impactful visual representations of epidemiological data for effective communication.
  • Assist with data validation and parallel reporting and provider onboarding (eCR and ELR).
  • Assist with Data Modernization activities including conducting stakeholder interviews, collaborating closely with stakeholders to produce reports, and creating visualizations.
  • Support other Informatics projects/tasks and be proactive, resourceful, self-directed, highly organized, and able to work independently and efficiently.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or Biostatistics with at least two advanced statistical courses taken during graduate program.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of experience in public health, epidemiology, or biostatistics; with at least two years of biostatistics experience. Candidates must pass a skills test in statistical or script development programming.

Qualifications

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Strong preference given to candidates with a background in data and/or informatics, and experience working with various statistical and visualization software.
SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED
Application review and/or interview. However, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.

This position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

Pay Grade 23

SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUNDED POSITION
Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
