ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST MANAGER I

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to manage and direct all of the locally delegated Food & Drink, Community Protection, Water, Sewage and Bay Restoration Programs for the Environmental Health Division in the Calvert County Health Department. This is to include planning, implementing and evaluating assigned programs to ensure State goals and objectives are met.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists. Experience: Four years of experience performing inspections and investigations in the field of environmental health to ensure compliance including two years in a supervisory capacity. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience. 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following: Knowledgeable of the regulations for retail food facilities, COMAR 10.15.03, to train staff according to MDH standards Familiar with plan review requirements according to MDH and has received adequate training to complete retail food plan reviews Has the required training and knowledge to become the local standardization officer for the retail food program Familiar with COMAR 10.17.01, 10.06.02, and the local body art and piercing ordinance Strong leadership skills

This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Calvert County Health Department's Environmental Health Division only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in these classifications must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists. 2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
