Environmental Health Specialist

Under supervision, assists in performing inspections, interviews, and technical reviews for an environmental health program in a public health department.  Assists in investigating complaints and recommending enforcement action as necessary.   

Requirements

Will provide inspection, permitting, consultation for compliance of state rules and regulations for the Clayton County Environmental Health Programs for the following facilities within the county:  Food Service, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, and Body Art.  In addition, the person hired for this position will provide services within the Wastewater Management, Emergency Preparedness, and other environmental health programs as well as investigate all assigned health-related complaints received and assigned. Salary will be adjusted based on prior DPH Environmental Health experience and degree of education, as applicable.  

Qualifications

               

               Environmental Health Specialist 1

               Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.). Some PH Environmental Health experience is preferred.   

Environmental Health Specialist 2 
 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND One year of experience at the lower-level PH Environmental Health Specialist 1 (RCP120) OR position equivalent.   
 
Environmental Health Specialist 3 
 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND One year of experience at the lower-level PH Environmental Health Specialist 2(RCP121) or position equivalent AND completion of the Georgia Environmental Health Trainings.  

             Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of paid experience as an EHS 1
  • Completion of the State of Georgia required New Environmentalist Training
  • Food Service Standardized and Certification as a Food Safety Manager (CFSM)
  • Certification as a Pool Operator (CPO)
  • Certified in the State Onsite Sewage Program or eligible for certification.
