Main Purpose of Job

The Environmental Health Director is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising Maryland Department of Health delegated programs, related Maryland Department of the Environment regulatory programs, and County/Local delegated environmental programs to ensure a comprehensive environmental health program for Worcester County. The selected applicant must be willing and able to travel to all Worcester County Health Department sites. This position requires evening/weekend/holiday hours in addition to participation in a on-call rotation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, environmental science or chemistry, and six years of experience involving inspections and investigations in the field of environmental health or closely related environmental health experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity. A master’s degree in Public Health or Environmental Health Science can substitute for one-year non-supervisory experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired candidates should possess the following: -Experience in Environmental Health serving management -Extensive knowledge and application of Environmental Health regulations -Strong leadership, strategic planning and communication skills

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license or be eligible to obtain licensure as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists. A copy of your license or license number and expiration date must accompany your application.
