Economic Stability Supervisor



The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana.

This supervisory position oversees the daily operations and program delivery of a Family Assistance Unit, leading a team of analysts, specialists, and clerical staff dedicated to serving individuals and households in need. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely delivery of essential benefits—including SNAP, FITAP, KCSP, and STEP—while guiding staff through complex federal and state policies. Requirements

Six years of economic stability social services experience; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of economic stability social services experience; OR

A bachelor's degree plus three years of economic stability social services experience; OR

An advanced degree in a social sciences field, business, public, or health administration plus two years of economic stability social services experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:
  • Supervise Social Service Analysts and support staff within an assigned unit, which may cover multiple parishes, by providing training, resolving staff and client disputes, approving leave, conducting performance planning, and completing evaluations.
  • Lead the resolution of complaints, disputes, and conflicts related to client participation in assistance programs by interviewing complainants, investigating issues, and determining appropriate resolutions.
  • Review and monitor subordinate casework for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness in determining eligibility for SNAP, FITAP, KCSP, and STEP benefits, and ensure accurate data entry and maintenance across multiple automated eligibility and document management systems.
  • Analyze case reviews to identify error trends, develop and implement corrective action plans, and design targeted or individualized training to improve staff performance and program compliance.
  • Provide policy interpretation and guidance by maintaining in-depth knowledge of program rules and procedures, delivering staff training, collaborating with regional program consultants, and participating in required professional development and certification programs.
  • Prepare and analyze statistical and management reports to document unit activities, support performance evaluations, guide training plans, recommend process improvements, and provide administrative coverage in the absence of parish management.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community providers and ensure disaster readiness by coordinating outreach activities, maintaining staff contact systems, and supporting disaster response efforts, including DSNAP implementation and shelter intake and tracking activities.

Appointment Type: This is a promotional opportunity open only to current permanent employees in a classified position with Louisiana Department of Health. The selected applicant may be required to serve a Detail to Special Duty prior to being promoted.

Compensation: This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER), as well as a Premium Pay of up to $2.00/hr for hours worked based on longevity.
