Disease Investigation and Intervention Specialist I/II


The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announces an examination process to create an eligibility list to fill two (2) vacancies for the classification of Disease Investigation and Intervention Specialist I/II in the Department of Acute Communicable Disease Control - HAI Program. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification in the HAI Program for up to four (4) months.

Responsible for assisting with duties related to the investigation, identification, surveillance, and prevention of communicable diseases; provides health education on disease prevention and control; conducts professional interaction with healthcare providers and the public on disease related issues; and performs related duties as assigned.

This position is funded by a grant and the continuation of the positiondepends on the availability of grant funds and the business requirements of SNHD. If the funding is discontinued or becomes unavailable, your employment may be terminated without the right to appeal.





Requirements


Disease Investigation & Intervention Specialist I

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major course work in biological sciences, epidemiology, or a closely related physical science field; OR   an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • N95 Mask Fit Testing required within six (6) months of employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Nevada Driver license within six (6) months of employment.
Disease Investigation & Intervention Specialist II

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major course work in biological sciences, epidemiology, or a closely related physical science field and two (2) years' experience as Disease Investigation and Intervention Specialist I and phlebotomy proficiency; OR
  • Two (2) years' experience conducting epidemiological investigations and/or disease surveillance activities involving a minimum of three communicable diseases; OR
  • Five (5) years' communicable disease or medical counseling experience.
  • Outbreak response and phlebotomy experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Nevada Laboratory Assistant or Office Laboratory Assistant License within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • N95 Mask Fit Testing required within six (6) months of employment. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Nevada Driver license within six (6) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with HAI, nursing, and/or clinical infection prevention preferred.
  • Possession of a CIC certification preferred
