Disease Data Collection Specialist II - ACDC (Promotional only) & Disease Surveillance


The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announces an examination process to create an eligibility list to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Disease Data Collection  Specialist II in the Department of Disease Surveillance and one (1) vacancy in the Acute Communicable Disease Control. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for these classifications for up to four (4) months. 

Responsible for  performing a variety of routine tasks related to collecting, processing, and entering disease surveillance data and information for the Southern Nevada Health District’s (District) Disease Surveillance and Control Division.

The current vacancies are in ACDC and Disease Surveillance.

Disease Surveillance vacancy - This recruitment will close on or before the closing date listed above once a sufficient number of qualified applicants have been identifiedThis vacancy works in a correctional/jail setting supporting linkage for individuals experiencing substance use disorder and/or people living with HIV.   This position will provide supportive services including HIV testing, overdose prevention education, and referral to community partners. Candidates must be able to successfully complete appropriate background screenings. 


ACDC vacancy - This vacancy is open to current SNHD employees only 

This position works primarily in an office setting. The primary work includes processing incoming disease reports with data entry into and retrieval from various SNHD and external partner electronic systems. Additionally, provides education to medical facilities both by phone and in-person regarding reportable diseases and conditions. Expected to handle more complex/challenging issues than DDCS I at completion of training period. 





Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years' experience as a DDCS I and the ability to conduct low-level investigations and surveillance activities independently; OR
  • Three (3) years' experience working with populations at high risk for communicable diseases or other high-risk populations; OR
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in behavioral science, psychology, biology, microbiology, medicine, or a related field.
  • Clinical office experience and knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Nevada Laboratory Assistant license within six (6) months of employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Nevada Driver license within six (6) months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
Disease Surveillance vacancy
  • Outreach or public health experience preferred
  • Linkage navigator experience or familiarity with community services navigation preferred
ACDC vacancy
  • Experience in reviewing medical charts and/or chart abstraction for data entry.
  • Experience with general office software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite(Outlook, Work, Excel, PowerPoint).
