This position is currently located in Juneau; we are recruiting in both Anchorage and Juneau and will fill the position based on the location of the most qualified candidate.

What You Will Be Doing:
The Deputy Director provides executive leadership for key Division of Behavioral Health functions, including the division's interface with the Medicaid program, provider enrollment, licensing, clinical oversight, and quality assurance activities.

You will work with a dynamic team of professionals committed to ensuring the effective management of the division's resources and support the implementation and oversight of mental health and substance misuse treatment programs and services within the State of Alaska.

You will be responsible for representing the division in collaboration with Department of Health leadership, including Division directors, Deputy Commissioners, the Commissioner, and presenting key projects and information to the Legislature.

Requirements

Three years of professional experience in the broad occupational fields of the division or department and two years of supervisory and/or managerial experience, which may be concurrent with the professional experience.

Special Note: 
"Professional experience in the broad occupational fields of the division or department," means experience in one of the professional areas that compose the division's purpose and function to ensure the applicant has the knowledge of the work of the division to be managed.

For example, in an administrative services division, qualifying professional experience could be in any one of the professional areas that compose business administration; such as accounting, procurement, human resources, and so on.

In a line division, for example the Division of Mining, Land, & Water in the Department of Natural Resources, qualifying experience could be in any one of the professional areas that provide for the use and protection of Alaska's State-owned land and water, such as geology, hydrology, forestry, natural resource management, and so on.

Positions in the partially exempt service are exempt from the recruitment processes required by AS 39.25.150 (3)-(10).

The partially exempt service is established by statute and is subject to the state's classification and pay plans. Employees appointed to partially exempt positions are exempt from the usual recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. Partially exempt positions are not covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

At the time of the interview, please provide the following: 
  1. Three (3) professional references whom we may contact by phone, one (1) of whom must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
