LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, CARROL COUNTY
Position is located at the Carroll County Health Department.
This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.
Prefer candidate to have active TN RDA license to allow for assisting chairside during emergencies or staffing shortages, in addition to possessing dental front office experience including understanding of dental terminology for accurate scheduling and insurance coding.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Possession of current registration as a dental assistant in the State of Tennessee with Dental Radiology Certification, Coronal Polishing Certification, Nitrous Oxide Certification, and Sealant Application Certification.
Substitution of Education for Experience: None.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Depending upon where the position is located, additional certifications in the following areas may be required upon employment:
1. Restorative Certification

Overview
The Carroll County Health Department is seeking a Dental Public Health Office Assistant. The CCHD provides public health, primary care, and dental services in local health departments throughout the state. The Dental Public Health Office Assistant performs clerical tasks in the health department dental clinic. These tasks include patient registration, scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, patient reminder and follow-up calls, referral coordination and other duties as assigned. Applicants should be customer focused, self-motivated, and team oriented.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and manage patient appointments
- Inform patients of any visit requirements
- Collect and update client demographic information for registration purposes
- Review documentation to determine eligibility for federal and state programs
- Input data into the health department management information systems
- Interact with multiple computer software systems to input/receive information
- Process the cash drawer and balance to ensure fiscal responsibility
- Inform clients of their rights and responsibilities for participation in programs
- Obtain prior authorization per guidance, before releasing medical information
- Assist in obtaining prior authorization from insurers through the gathering and submission of documentation before services are rendered,
as applicable - Compile appropriate forms for services requested to ensure efficient clinic flow
- Scanning and Indexing records into the electronic dental record
