DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department is seeking a qualified candidate for a Customer Service Clerk to perform the following duties:


1. Performs basic research and gathers necessary tuberculosis control information to resolve routine patient inquiries and responds to inquiries via mail, telephone, e-mail and personal contact. 
2. Receives and verifies completeness and accuracy of requests from customers; processes requests and work orders utilizing a computer terminal and/or tracking system. 
3. Performs data entry activities to update patient records within authorized limits. 
4. Processes reports, requests and make changes to update customer medical information.  
5. Gathers or collects information to generate reports for Texas Department of State Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control, activity logs, etc. 


WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of clerical/customer service experience are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None. 

Qualifications

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

GRANT FUNDED POSITION
Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
