The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level inpatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, inpatient/residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across all the divisions of NMBHI to ensure high-quality treatment and care is delivered.

Why does the job exist?

 
Custodians perform a variety of heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing trash. They may fix leaky faucets, empty trash cans, do painting and carpentry, replenish bathroom supplies, mow lawns, and see that heating and air-conditioning equipment works properly. Janitors may wet- or dry-mop floors, clean bathrooms, vacuum carpets, dust furniture, make minor repairs, and exterminate insects and rodents.

How does it get done?

 
Performs routine janitorial services.
Prepares requests to order supplies and equipment.
Operates and performs routine repairs on equipment; checks locks on buildings and windows to maintain security; performs independent janitorial services.

Who are the customers?

 
This position provides housekeeping services to all patients who are admitted to the hospital division of NMBHI. This position also provides housekeeping services to all divisions within NMBHI.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have:
-Experience in housekeeping, environmental services or custodial work,
-Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitation and infection control practices,
-Ability to work independently and follow established cleaning procedures,
-Dependable, punctual, and able to work assigned schedules.

Minimum Qualification

 
Eighth grade education.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess a current driver's license and defensive driving certificate.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in patient, residential and common areas with exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and noise. The position requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The position will include weekends, holidays and various shifts based on operational needs.
