This posting will be used for on-going recruitment and may close at any time.  Applicant lists may be screened more than once. New Mexico Rehabilitation Center (NMRC) is a Joint Commission accredited specialty hospital providing rehabilitation services to citizens of the State of New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

 
Prepare and cook large quantities of quality nutritional meals for residents at a long-term care facility, while maintaining established nutritional standards.

How does it get done?

 
Clean, cut, and cook meat, fish, or poultry.  Cook food meals according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served.  Clean and inspect galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.  Apportion and serve food to facility residents, employees, or patrons.  Direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.

NMRC is Specialty Hospital that treats patients and clients with Chemical Dependency and Medical Rehabilitation needs.

Ideal Candidate

 
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be able to follow a recipe. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Minimum Qualification

 
Eighth grade education.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated a safety sensitive. Must successfully complete post offer preemployment criminal records background check is conditional pending results of criminal background check. Employment is subject to preemployment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Working Conditions

 
This position will perform work in a kitchen setting with exposure to high and low temperatures from ovens and freezers. This position requires extended periods of standing, bending, squatting and reaching above head and shoulders as well as the ability to lift and/or carry up to fifty (50) pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to minor physical harm such as cuts from knives, kitchen machinery and other kitchen equipment. Exposure to potentially violent patients in volatile situations. This position requires working, early mornings, evenings, weekends, rotating shifts, and/or holidays.
