Why does the job exist?

 
Prepare and cook large quantities of quality nutritional meals for residents at a long-term care facility, while maintaining established nutritional standards.

How does it get done?

 
Clean, cut, and cook meat, fish, or poultry. 
Cook foods according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served. 
Clean and inspect galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation. 
Serve food to facility residents, employees, or patrons. 
Direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals

Who are the customers?

 
Residents at a long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate

 
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Minimum Qualification

 
Eighth grade education.

Employment Requirements

 
Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results. Will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.

Working Conditions

 
Position will work in a kitchen and moves intermittently during working hours.
Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Is subject to sudden temperature changes when entering refrigerator.
May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures in kitchen/storage area.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
Position may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays.

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (¿CMS¿), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
